Xenia Propagation

Pulsing Xenia Frags

These are cut frags from a large colony.

Pulsing Xenia is a very easy coral to propagate. All you need to do is prepare a few stones or places where you can place the cut off pieces. I would recommend using cement plugs or frags of liverock. Try to get flat surfaces for the coral to grow on. To cut the xenia, find the extra branch near the base that is next to the main colony. Cut the xenia branch at the base and use a string to place it on the plug. After about 1 week, the xenia should be attached to the plug and you can now remove the string. If you don't see the propagated coral pulsing at all then it means it is not doing very well or it is dead. If you see it pulsing then it should be fine. After about 1 month it should grow to a respectable size.
